Our Village Hall is 100!!!!!

Our lovely Village Hall celebrates 100 years of being used by Newton Solney villagers this year. We would like to mark this with a party; any suggestions please get in touch. If anyone has any photos of events at the village hall over the past few decades we would love to share them as part of the celebration. Could we please share either by email or by photocopies. The 100 year celebration will be combined with this year’s shoot on Saturday 28th November Our email is nsvh@btinternet.com

Village in Bloom – Judging taking place 9th July.

Judging for the Best Front Garden and Hanging Basket/Planter competition will take place sometime in July. The Annual Village Show will be held on Saturday 22nd August. Preparations are well under way and show schedules will be distributed in early July. A few new people have volunteered to help on the day or be stewards but additional help is always welcome. Dates for the diary Bingo at the village hall Saturday 11th July 7pm start. Chocolate prizes for a line, cash prize for a full house!

Newton in Bloom

Thank you to those of you volunteering to look after a planter, #working together. Newton Solney Bowling Afternoon

Due to a grant from Sports England the Village Hall has now purchased some new Crown Bowls so why not come along and try them every Monday afternoon from 1.30pm from June 29th, 2026. £2.00 to play with usage of the bowls and drinks available.

Newton Solney Women’s Institute – June 2026

Our members thoroughly enjoyed the interactive Tai Chi session at our June meeting. Lisa Dengate provided us with a background to the ancient Chinese martial art before a taster session with some basic moves.

We are all looking forward to being up on our feet again for our July meeting, to learn about the game of Crown Green Bowls.

On Saturday September 19th at 7pm, we will be holding a WI Fundraising Quiz. The cost per person will be £5, up to 4 people per team. We will be providing food included in the price and you are very welcome to bring your own drinks. We will also have a raffle with some great prizes. This quiz is open to everyone, and we look forward to welcoming you for a fun evening.

Looking forward to August and September, we have our summer social on 16th August and in September a trip down memory lane with Jane Kitto and Margaret Acford. Jane and Margaret have been working on the History of the village and the WI in particular.

We continue to look at new and exciting opportunities for our members, and we are open to any suggestions. Our age range is currently 40 upwards, however, we would be very pleased to see women of any age as we do endeavour to make sure there is something for everyone. St. Mary’s Tuesday Lunch Club

We are next meeting on Tuesday July 7th at 1pm in the Village Hall.As usual we shall be serving a Ploughman’s/Salad Lunch followed by a choice of desserts and tea/coffee. All are welcome to enjoy a friendly, social gathering. Most of our regulars have already booked – many thanks, but if you haven’t and would like to join us, please contact Hazel on 701244. There will be No meeting in August. Have a lovely summer break and we shall look forward to seeing you all again on September 1st

Newton Solney Tuesday Club

At our June meeting, our planned speaker was unable to attend, but Margaret and Chris Shaw kindly stepped in. Chris showed a video of their visit to China. It gave a fascinating insight into the traditions, culture, food and development of the Country and in particular the construction of the Yangtze River three gorges dam. Future Programme: – Tuesday, 7th July at 2.15pm: Samantha Hancock, Cyber Protection Officer from the Cybercrime Unit at Derbyshire Police Headquarters, will give hints on how to stay safe online, internet banking and avoiding scam phone calls. Tuesday, 1st September at 2.15pm: – Programme to be decided. There is no meeting in August. Best wishes from the Tuesday Club Committee.

Newton Solney Communiy Book Cafe

23rd July 2026 10.30 – 12.30 pm. At Newton Solney Village Hall. A place to socialise over a cup of tea and coffee with biscuits and cake. Books and jigsaws to borrow or swop available.

Brief notes from the PC meeting held on Tuesday 16th June 2026.
DCC Councillor Mr Matthew Benfield reported that the mobile library will restart soon. Upcoming roadworks-details can be found on DCC highways website- the bridge at Willington may be closed in August.
SDDC Councillor Mr James Lowe reported that a new SDDC chairman has been appointed. The new leisure centre site and SDDC offices plans have been approved.
Parish Council: Standing orders and Financial Regulations were revised and approved. Insurance renewal was approved. The bench by the river will be repaired.
Cemex: Ongoing- the works have recommenced and are progressing well.
Defibrillators– The defibrillators are installed at Newton Solney C of E Infant School andon the outside wall of the Village Hall by the entrance.
Speedwatch: This is progressing very well. – however more volunteers would be very welcome- please contact Councillor Mrs Karen Makin Wall. The results of their activities are available on the website and are regularly updated.
Community Hub and orchard: A new door has been approved and will be installed. There will be further planting in the orchard later in the year. Further refurbishment of the shed will be undertaken.
Village in Bloom: Ongoing. Judging to take place on 9th July.
Parking on grass verges: Residents and visitors to the village are politely requested Not to park on the grass verges.
Dogs on the Recreation Field: Parishioners are reminded that dogs should be kept on the leash when on the footpath that crosses the recreation field.
Parish Councillor Vacancy: A vacancy has arisen for a Parish Councillor- all enquiries should be addressed to the Parish Clerk.

Church ground help needed

Hello, we are after volunteers to help the small team keep on top of some of the churchyard tasks. It is very rewarding on a nice day, tools and equipment generally available. You could have a small, medium or larger task depending on your time and physical ability. It’s great fun, HONEST!
